Bundesliga Matchday 8 Roundup for Season 16/17

In Bundesliga Matchday 8, Newly-promoted Leipzig moved up to second place in the Bundesliga following a dominant 3-1 win against Werder Bremen.

Naby Keita bagged a brace to put Leipzig in front before Davie Selke scored Leipzig’s third goal of the game – Bremen’s only goal came courtesy of Serge Gnabry. The result sees Leipzig sit two points behind league leaders Bayern in what is proving to be a heated race for the title.

Bayern brought an end to their two-game winless run in the German top flight as Ancelotti’s side secured a 2-0 victory at the Allianz against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Arturo Vidal and Douglas Costa were on target for the home side in what appeared to be an easy victory for Bayern.

Schalke continued their encouraging comeback following a poor start to the season which saw them sit in the relegation zone. The Royal Blues secured a 3-0 victory over Mainz with Bentaleb scoring a brace and Maximillian Meyer closing the scoring.

The Billy Goats’ unbeaten start to the season came to an abrupt end at the hands of Hertha Berlin who has now moved ahead of Cologne on the league standings.

Hertha’s goals came courtesy of Vedad Ibisevic and Niklas Stark with Anthony Modeste continuing his fine form for Cologne by putting his name on the scoresheet.

Kevin Volland suffered a red card in a game which ended up being one sided due in large part to Volland’s sending off. Hoffenheim continued their unbeaten run at Leverkusen’s expense as they fell to mid-table following goals from Kerem Demirbay, Sandro Wagner and Steven Zuber.

The win took Hoffenheim up to third place – just four points behind the league leaders.

The pick of results came in a thrilling dramatic 3-3 draw between Ingolstadt and Dortmund. Almog Cohen and Dario Lezcano put the visitors in front before Aubameyang managed to pull one back for the away side.

Lezcano then bagged another goal which seemingly put the game to bed before Adrian Ramos and Christain Pulisic struck home to make things level in the tie.

Elsewhere, Wolfsburg dropped into the relegation zone following a 3-1 loss to Darmstadt. Mario Gomez bagged Wolfsburg’s only goal before Ben-Hatira, Laszlo Kleinheisler and Sandro Sirigu completed the 3-1 win for Darmstadt.

Freiburg secured a victory over Augsburg following goals from Maximillian Philipp and Nils Petersen – Halil Alintop scored Augsburg’s lone goal.

Friday night’s fixture saw Lewis Holtby score an own goal which set the tone for the rest of the events in Frankfurt’s 3-0 win over Hamburg..

Shani Tarashaj bagged the second goal of the game before Haris Seferovic completed the scoring.
