Mauricio Pochettino led Spurs into the top four last season. The North London outfit was on course to clinch the title, but Leicester beat them to it and things seemed to go downhill from there.
Tottenham is seemingly giving the title another go this term. They’ve gotten off to a flying start in the League, and they’re yet to succumb to defeat.
Pochettino’s side is the only team to have picked up a win against Manchester City, and they did so with relative ease. The game against Man City team was quite insightful regarding Spurs’ attacking and defensive strengths.
Up until the loss against Spurs, the Citizens tore past every team they faced. Mauricio Pochettino deserves credit for identifying Man City’s weaknesses and capitalising on them.
Liverpool Legend Jamie Carragher has touted Tottenham to be “right in there” challenging for the Premier League title. The ex-Liverpool defender’s claims are quite valid seeing as Spurs is much stronger this season.
Mauricio Pochettino has seemingly groomed his players to be a close-knit bunch, and they look set to challenge for the title. It’s fair to say inconsistency and emotions got the best of Spurs last season.
The gaffer will be keen on making sure his players are incredibly focused as the season begins to unravel.
It’s worth noting that Tottenham haven’t lifted the title since 1961, but as Leicester prove the last term – the right balance of players, motivation and tactics is all you need to clinch the title.
In a season where the top 8 in the League have considerably bolstered their ranks, Tottenham will be faced with many obstacles in the form of other title chasers.
It’s up to the players to keep their wits about them in a bid to possibly bring the title to White Hart Lane for the first time in the Premier League era.
Having come so close to winning the league last season, Spurs were expected to drop off and plummet down the table as a result of their failed title bid.
Instead, Pochettino has rallied the troops once again and are set to be in the mix of things as far as the title is concerned.
Spurs could climb to the top of the table if they secure the victory against a defensively strong West Brom side following the conclusion of the international break, although it’s solely dependent on if City dropping points against Everton.
Tottenham is evidently capable of picking up points against big sides, but they need to maintain their impressive performances against the smaller teams.
Complacency is detrimental to any team’s title hopes. Tottenham can’t risk underestimating any side especially in a season where every team is at the top of their game.
With the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal agonisingly close to Spurs on the League table, the North Londoners can’t afford to slip up anytime soon.
Tottenham recorded 13 draws last season – that sort of tally simply won’t do if they’re keen on challenging for the title.
While it’s too early to say, Tottenham has a solid chance of winning the League if they can maintain their current form and treat every game like a final.
