Christian Benteke set to sign for Crystal Palace

Liverpool agree on striker fee

Yesterday, we reported that Crystal Palace have supposedly switched their targets from Liverpool striker Cristian Benteke to Chelsea striker Loic Remy.

However, it appears that was not the case, as according to the latest report from Sky Sports, the Eagles have reached an agreement with the Reds over the transfer fee for the Belgium international.

The report claims that the Eagles have offered to pay an initial £27m plus £5m in add-ons for the 25-year-old.

Benteke signed for the Reds in a £32.5m move from Aston Villa last summer, and the Merseysiders wanted to recoup most of what they paid for the striker. Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has already hinted that Benteke doesn’t feature in his plans this season and he also didn’t involve him in the matchday squad for opening day win over Arsenal.

Palace, who want to sign a striker following the departures of Emmanuel Adebayor, Dwight Gayle and Marouane Chamakh, have already had their initial bid of £23m up front and £7m in add-ons rejected by the Reds.

According to an alternative report from ESPN FC, Benteke has already passed his medical with the South London club.

Benteke scored ten goals in all competitions for the Merseyside club last season.
