Champions League Tuesday Roundup: Perez Hat-trick Sees Arsenal Finish Top

Arsenal finished top of Group A as Lucas Perez scored a sublime hat-trick which more or less put the game beyond doubt early in the tie. Perez opened the scoring in the 8th minute, he then added to his tally in the 16th minute.

Perez completed his hat-trick in the 47th minute before Alex Iwobi chipped in with a goal to put Arsenal 4-0 up. Seydou Doumbia bagged what turned out to be a consolation goal for Basel in the 78th minute as the game ended 4-1 in favour of the North London outfit.

PSG was held to a draw by Ludogorets as the Bulgarian outfit held out for a 2-2 draw which saw them finish 3rd in Group A, thus, qualifying for the Europa League knockout round.

Goals from Cavani and Di Maria cancelled out Virgil Misidjan’s 15th-minute strike and Wanderson’s  goal in the 69th minute. The result was somewhat shocking as PSG were expected to win by a fine margin.

Napoli finished top of Group B following an emphatic 2-1 win over Benfica last night. Jose Callejon opened the scoring for the Naples outfit in the second-half before Dries Mertens struck home to double Napoli’s lead. Benfica’s lone goal came courtesy of Raul Jimenez’s 87th-minute strike.

Elsewhere in Group B, Dynamo Kyiv went out of the Champions League with a bang as they secured a 6-0 win over Besiktas despite having nothing but pride to play for in the tie.

Arda Turan scored a hat-trick as Barcelona secured a 4-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in last night’s group D fixture. Messi had opened the scoring before Arda Tuan slotted three past Gladbach’s defence.

Manchester City were held to a draw by Celtic as goals from Kelechi Ihenacho, and Patrick Roberts cancelled each other out.

Bayern Munich secured a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in last night’s Group D fixture, although it had no effect on the Group’s standings as Atletico had already been confirmed as the winner of the group going into the next round.

Robert Lewandowski scored the decisive goal which saw Bayern pick up the win. While PSV and Rostov played out a goalless draw which saw Rostov progress to the Europa League knockout stage as they finished 3rd.
