Barcelona claim first trophy of the season

Barcelona have won Spanish Super Cup after defeating Sevilla 5-0 on aggregate in the two-legged tie.

The annual tournament takes place between the winners of La Liga and Copa Del Rey.

The Catalan club, who claimed a 2-0 win in the first leg of the tie, faced Sevilla in the second leg at Nou Camp on Wednesday night.

Barca manager Luis Enrique decided to rest striker Luis Suarez for the game and handed debuts to Andre Gomes and Samuel Umtiti.

Sevilla, who needed to overturn the two-goal deficit, started the game brightly, but it was Barcelona who scored the opening goal of the game.

Lionel Messi slid the ball through for Arda Turan, who made no mistake in putting the ball into the net in the 10th minute of the game. The Catalan club then had the Chilean keeper Claudio Bravo to thank for saving a penalty from Vicente Iborra in the 33rd minute of the game.

Turan doubled the lead for the Catalans in the first minute of the second half. The Turkey international latched on to the ball following a poor clearance from Sevilla keeper Rico and curled it into the net from outside the box.

Eight minutes later, Messi completed the scoreline with a header from Denis Suarez’s cross.
