Serie A Matchday 15 Roundup: Roma in Touching Distance of Juventus

Juventus’ win over Atalanta saw the Turin giants maintain their four point gap over Roma. Alex Sandro opened the scoring for Juve in the 15th minute before Daniele Rugani struck home to double the lead just four minutes later.

Napoli kicked off the weekend with a 3-0 win over Inter Milan. Goals from Piotr Zielinski, Marek Hamsik and Lorenzo Insigne saw the Naples outfit secure all three points at the San Paolo.

Mario Mandzukic put the game beyond doubt with a goal in the 64th minute which took Juventus’ tally up to three. Remo Freuler then scored a consolation goal for Atalanta in the 82nd minute.

AC Milan nearly dropped points against Crotone, but a late strike from Gianluca Lapadula saw Milan pick up the three points at the San Siro. Diego Falcinelli opened the scoring for Crotone before Mario Pasalic scored the equaliser for Milan.

Mbaye Niang failed to convert a penalty in the 53rd minute, but Lapadula helped make up for that with his late strike.

Elsewhere, Roma picked up an easy win in the Rome derby against Lazio thanks to goals from Kevin Strootman and Radija Nainggolan. Lazio was reduced to ten men as Danilo Cataldi receive a red card in the 67th minute, that sending off more or less reduced Lazio’s ability to create chances in the game.

Pescara played out a 1-1 draw with Cagliari with Gianluca Caprari, and Marco Borriello got on the scoresheet for their respective sides.

Sampdoria was the better side against Torino as they grabbed a decisive 2-0 win over the Turin outfit at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris thanks to goals from Edgar Barreto and Patrik Schick. Sassuolo also secured a 3-0 win over Empoli courtesy of goals from Lorenzo Pellegrini, Federico Ricci and Antonio Ragusa.

Goals from Federico Bernadeschi and Khouma Babacar saw Fiorentina secure the three points against a Palermo side that were only able to hit the back of the net on one occasion through Mato Jajalo.

Monday night’s fixtures saw Chievo Verona play out a goalless draw with Genoa and  Udinese secure a 1-0 win over Bologna thanks to a late goal from Danilo in the last minute of normal time.
