Serie A Matchday 24 Roundup: Juventus Continue Fine Form

Juventus won their 20th league game of the season as they garnered three points against Cagliari who are currently clear of a relegation dogfight as they sit 13 points above the drop zone.

Gonzalo Higuain fired Juventus to the win with a sublime brace after scoring in both halves of the tie. Nicolo Barella received a red card for a foul on Juventus playmaker Miralem Pjanic.

The reigning Serie A champions look unlikely to slip up at any point towards the end of the season as Max Allegri’s tactical acumen has seen the Bianconeri make the top spot their own.

Nevertheless, title rivals, AS Roma, aren’t showing any signs of giving up following their 2-0 win over relegation strugglers Crotone who look poised to return to the Serie B after their appalling displays thus far.

Radija Nainggolan and Edin Dzeko hit the back of the net as Roma went on to win against one of the league’s most porous defences.

Dzeko missed a penalty in the 18th-minute, he’s previously done so in the league this season, but he was able to make up for the missed spot-kick with a goal in the second half of the game.

Nainggolan scored the opening goal in the 40th-minute whilst Edin Dzeko’s strike came in the 77th-minute.

As things stand, Roma are seven points behind Juventus who sits top of the pile with no signs of dropping off.

Napoli continued their impressive scoring form with a 2-0 win over Genoa which further cemented the Naples outfit’s position as the Serie A’s 3rd-placed side.

Piotr Zielinski and Emanuele Giacherini were on target for Napoli as goals from both players spurred Maurizio Sarri’s side to the win.

Elsewhere, Fiorentina put up a good display at the Artemio Franchi, Firenze stadium as they put three goals past Udinese.

Borja Valero opened the scoring for Fiorentina four minutes before the end of the first half. The second 45 saw Khouma Babacar and Federico Bernadeschi get their names on the scoresheet with the latter’s goal coming from the penalty spot.

Fiorentina are one point behind AC Milan and will be looking to overtake Vincenzo Montella’s side, Lazio and Atalanta as they look to make a final push for a spot in the Europa League.

Lazio and AC Milan played out a 1-1 draw which had a significant impact in the race for a Europa League spot.

Lucas Bigila gave Lazio the lead with a penalty right on the stroke of half-time at the Stadio Olimpic, but a late strike from Suso in the 85th-minute helped salvage a draw for Milan who’s form has been quite sporadic recently.

Atalanta secured a 3-1 win away at Stadio Renzo Barbera with goals from Andrea Conti, Alejandro Gomez and Bryan Cristante helping Atalanta to a crucial three points.

Ivailo Cchochev scored Palermo’s only goal in a game utterly dominated by the away side.

Chievo Verona secured a similar result away at Sassuolo following Roberto Inglese’s man of the match performance as he bagged three goals. Inglese could’ve scored four goals, but he failed to convert a penalty handed to him moments after Timo Letschert’s sending off for Sassuolo.

Alessandro Matri opened the scoring for the home side, but ten-man Sassuolo were unable to cope with Chievo's numbers and sheer efficiency as Sassuolo eventually capitulated amid Inglese’s hat-trick and fell to a disheartening defeat.

Luis Muriel, Patrik Schick and an own goal from Ibrahima Mbaye saw Sampdoria secure a 3-1 home win over Bologna. Blerim Dzemalli scored Bologna’s lone goal early in the game, but Sampdoria proved too much to handle.

Torino beat Pescara in an eight-goal thriller as II Toro put five goals past Pescara’s weak defence.

Ahmed Benali bagged a brace for the relegation strugglers along with an own goal from Arlind Ajeti, but their efforts failed to cancel out Torino’s goals.

Goals from Iago Falaque, Arlind Ajeti, Andrea Belotti (two goals) and Adem Ljajic ensured Torino grabbed all three points.
