Bundesliga Matchday 33 Roundup: Bayern Beat Leipzig in Nine-Goal Thriller

Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig played out a nine-goal thriller in Saturday's full Bundesliga matchday which more or less highlighted the attacking prowess of both sides.

Bayern travelled to the Red Bull Arena in a game that seemed more like a friendly encounter than a competitive game, due in large part to the fact that both sides have already secured their respective positions in this season’s Bundesliga thus allowing them to play without restrictions.

Marcel Sabitzer opened the scoring in the 2nd-minute before Robert Lewandowski pulled one back for Bayern in the 17th-minute from the penalty spot.

Timo Werner also converted a spot kick to restore Leipzig’s lead in the 29th-minute, whilst Yussuf Poulsen increased RB’s tally to three goals.

Thiago Alcantara pulled one back for Bayern right before Timo Werner completed his brace.

Bayern went on a scoring spree, though, with Lewandowski also completing his brace, David Alaba getting his name on the scoresheet and Arjen Robben scoring the match winner for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Bayer Leverkusen and Cologne played out a 2-2 draw at the Bay Arena. Milos Jojic and Lukas Kluenter scored for Cologne in the first half, but the second 45 saw Stefan Kiessling and Joel Pohjanpalo draw things level.

Leverkusen now sit 12th in the league standings whilst Cologne currently occupies 7th place, just one point behind a Europa League qualifying spot.

Augsburg held Dortmund to a 1-1 draw with Alfred Finnbogason opening the scoring in the 28th-minute. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored Dortmund’s lone goal as Thomas Tuchel’s side walked out of the WWK Arena with a point in the bag.

Europa League hopefuls, Freiburg played out a 1-1 draw with Ingolstadt with goals from Maximilian Philipp and Dario Lezcano cancelling each other out.

With just one game left in the Bundesliga, a win next week Saturday will ensure Europa League qualification for Freiburg; the only problem is their opponents on the last day of the season is Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

Goals from Salomon Kalou and Jordan Torunarigha helped Hertha Berlin to a 2-0 away at Darmstadt. They need a win in their final game of the season against Bayer Leverkusen to secure qualification to next season’s Europa League.

Free-scoring Werder Bremen played out an eight-goal thriller with Hoffenheim.

Adem Szalai opened the scoring for Hoffenheim before goals from Andrej Kramaric and Steven Zuber led Julian Nageslmann’s side to a 3-0 win in the first half.

Kramaric doubled his tally in the 49th-minute before Ermin Bicakic scored three minutes later.

Werder Bremen made a spirited attempt to get back into the game with Theodor Selassie, Philipp Bargfrede and Robert Bauer finding the back of the net, but the game ultimately ended in a 5-3 win for Hoffenheim.

Schalke played out a 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Hamburg. Guido Burgstaller opened the scoring for Schalke before Pierre-Michel Lasogga pulled things level to secure a point for Hamburg.

Wolfsburg grabbed a point off Borussia Monchengladbach as Jannik Vestergaard opened the scoring before Mario Gomez found the back of the net in the 58th-minute.

Mainz beat Frankfurt 4-2 courtesy of goals from Jhon Cordoba, Stefan Bell, Yoshinori Muto and Pablo De Blasis.

Branimir Hrgota and Haris Seferovic scored Frankfurt's consolation goals.
