Liverpool transfer news: Reds interested in Euro Cup hero and more stories

Liverpool have emerged as frontrunners in the pursuit of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Mario, according to latest reports.

Portuguese publications Bola and O Jogo have claimed that the Reds are interested in signing the 23-year-old, who has a €60million release clause in his contract.

Mario’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, recently revealed that Sporting have already turned down bids from Liverpool and Inter Milan for their star player.

Both bids varied between €35 and €40 million plus bonuses according to Joorabchian.

“Sporting have received four proposals. Inter Milan and Liverpool, certainly, with values between €35 and €40 million, plus bonuses,” he said.

“Sporting refused all offers. So from now on, we are discussing a new contract or sale.”

However, Inter seemed to have handled the upper-hand in the transfer pursuit to Liverpool by ending their pursuit of the Euro Cup winner.

Italian publication Corriere Dello Sport claims that Inter have shifted their focus towards Lazio winger Antonio Candreva leaving the Reds as favourites to sign Mario.

Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a move for the Portugal international this summer.

In another Liverpool-related transfer news, Ajax and Napoli have emerged as possible targets for wantaway Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli.

Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio has claimed the Balotelli’s agent, Mino Raiola, has approached both clubs regarding the availability of the 25-year-old.

The report went on to claim that the initial talks with Ajax have proved to be more constructive as compared to the talks with Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentis.

Balotelli, who has been told by Jurgen Klopp that he has no future with the Reds, has also attracted interest from Besiktas, Sampdoria and Pescara.

Meanwhile, Turkish club Galatasaray have confirmed that they are interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva.

The Turkish giants have been linked with a move for the Brazilian, and the club coach Jan Olde Riekering recently confirmed that Lucas is one of the many players that interest the club.

He said: “Lucas is an option but we are looking at different players. He is very experienced and a very good player but we are also looking at other players.

“He is an option but for now nothing more than that. I think we will have a couple of players in next week and we are taking the right steps to get them.

“Sometimes it happens early and sometimes it takes longer but for me it is better to make the right choice than the quick choice.”
