Julian Draxler

Draxler is not for sale

Wolfsburg have vehemently denied the suggestions that winger Julian Draxler will be leaving the Bundesliga club this summer.

The 22-year-old, in an interview published today in German publication Bild, insisted that he wants to leave his club this summer.

The German international hit back Wolfsburg for publicly claiming that he is happy at the club and revealed that he has made the club aware of his desire to depart three weeks ago.

Bild also claimed that Juventus and Arsenal are currently interested in the player and the player is inclining on a move towards the North London club.

“Before you go public like that, you really should speak with me first,” Draxler told German newspaper Bild.

“The situation with me is that I made it clear to (head coach) Dieter Hecking after we were knocked out of Euro 2016 in the semi-final that I would like to leave Wolfsburg.

“The coach has known about this for three weeks. It’s very surprising that they have been talking about me to the media for weeks.

“I would have expected things to be different, for example for one of them to come to me and ask me how things are with me.”

Draxler signed for Wolfsburg from Schalke 04 on a five-year deal last summer. He scored nine goals in 34 appearances in all competitions for Wolfsburg last season.

However, the German club took no time to release their own statement addressing the comments from Draxler.

Wolfsburg insist that the winger won’t be going anywhere this season, and the release clause, which Draxler mentioned in his interview, will only come into effect in the summer of 2017.

The club statement reads: “VfL Wolfsburg wish to make it absolutely clear at no time did those responsible at the club make either written nor oral commitments on the transfer of Julian Draxler within the current transfer period, all which is due to end on August, 2016.

“This is reiterated by a contractual release clause agreed upon with Julian Draxler and his management, which does not come into effect until summer 2017.

“VfL Wolfsburg will not be selling Julian Draxler during the course of the current transfer period.

“In joint discussions with Julian Draxler, VfL Wolfsburg again made it clear that they would not be granting the player’s wish to make a move.

“We now consider any possible uncertainties have been eradicated and all parties can revert back to a professional and responsible collaboration for the good of VfL Wolfsburg and, in particular, for our fans.”

Draxler reportedly took part in his first training session of pre-season on Wednesday before he was informed by the club officials that he won’t be sold under any circumstances this season.
