Champions League Matchday 3 Roundup for Wednesday Games + Highlights

Arsenal produced a memorable performance at the Emirates Stadium as the North London outfit hammered Ludogorets 6-0 in a game which the Gunners thoroughly dominated.

Mesut Ozil scored a stunning hat-trick which more or less earned him the man of the match award. Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were also on target for the Gunners with each of them scoring a goal apiece.

The result took Arsenal to the top of Group A – the Gunners have amassed seven points thus far, the same tally as PSG although Wenger’s side leads the French giants on goal difference (9/7).

Unai Emery will be pleased that his side was able to keep up with Arsenal’s pace after securing a 3-0 win over Swiss outfit Basel.

Di Maria broke the deadlock five minutes before the half-time break; Lucas Moura then added to PSG’s tally for the night as the second-half got underway before Edinson Cavani completed the scoring with a late penalty.

The result sees Basel sit at third place with just one point – Ludogorets are currently Group A’s 4th placed side with just one point and a lesser goal difference than their Swiss counterparts.

Elsewhere, Bayern Munich got back to winning ways to keep up with Group D leaders Atletico Madrid who grabbed all three points against Rostov courtesy of a goal from Yannick Carrasco in a 1-0 win.

Thomas Muller gave Bayern the lead at the Allianz before Joshua Kimmich continued his impressive goalscoring form as he bagged Bayern’s second goal of the night.

Luciano Narsingh gave PSV a glimmer of hope with a goal before the break. That goal soon became irrelevant as Robert Lewandowski and Arjen Robben made it 4-1 for Bayern in the second-half.

Besiktas sneaked a win over a Napoli side that’s indeed missing the services of Milik who’s currently out for five months with a knee injury. Napoli succumbed to defeat at the hands of the Turkish outfit in a game that ended 3-2.

Goals from Eduardo Salvio and Franco Cervi helped to keep Benfica’s round-of-16 qualification hopes alive as the Portuguese outfit secured a 2-1 win away at Dinamo Kiev.

Group C saw Manchester City succumb to a shocking 4-0 defeat against a Messi-inspired Barcelona. Claudio Bravo was shown a red card in the 53rd minute and things pretty much went downhill from there as Messi completed a stunning hat-trick.

Pep Guardiola will certainly be disappointed at such a loss at the hands of his former employers. Before the fixture, both sides were expected to put up scintillating displays of football – a one sided result prior to the kick-off was certainly not on the cards.

Monchengladbach took advantage of City’s loss as the German outfit secured a 2-0 victory over Celtic.
