Bundesliga Matchday 9 Roundup + Highlights

Robert Lewandowski bagged a brace as Bayern picked up all three points against Augsburg, a team they also claimed victory over in the DFB Pokal last time out.

Robben and Lewandowski combined beautifully to put Augsburg’s defence to the sword as both players either scored or assisted all three goals in the game. The win saw Bayern remain atop the table with 23 points while Leipzig is currently 2 points adrift of that tally.

Newly-promoted Leipzig secured a 2-0 win over Darmstadt to keep up with Carlo Ancelotti’s men with Marcel Sabitzer scoring both goals. The second-placed side is yet to taste defeat this season having won six and drawn three of their league games thus far.

Dortmund’s winless streak was extended to four games following Saturday’s goalless draw with Schalke at the Signal Iduna Park. Dortmund currently sits at 6th place on the league signing’s while Schalke sits below the bottom-half of the table at 12th.

Cologne won against Hamburger SV in a game which seemed not to be going the home side’s way up until the 61st minute when Anthony Modeste broke the deadlock. Modeste then went on to bag a hat-trick with goals coming on the 83rd and the 86th minute.

It’s worth noting that Modeste missed a penalty in the first-half – his hat-trick definitely made up for that.

Elsewhere, Leverkusen won at the Volkswagen Arena against a resilient Wolfsburg side. Maximilian Arnold opened the scoring for the home side as Wolfsburg carried a slender 1-0 lead into half-time. The second-half saw Leverkusen launch a comeback thanks to goals from Mehmedi and Tin Jedvaj which sealed a 2-1 win for the away side.

Wolfsburg is now winless in eight games, and they’ll be looking to change their fortunes as the season progresses.

Maximilian Philipp, Vincenzo Grifo and Amir Abrashi were all on target as Freiburg secured a 3-1 win over Werder Bremen. The home side’s lone goal came courtesy of a second-half strike from Santiago Garcia.

Ingolstadt’s poor run of form continued as Mainz claimed all three points in what proved to be a relatively easy fixture for Mainz. Yunus Malli opened the scoring for Mainz whilst Levin Oztunali scored their second of the game.

Monchengladbach and Frankfurt played out this weekend’s second goalless draw as both sides settled for a point apiece. Gladbach currently sits at 11th place with just 12 points after nine games whilst Frankfurt have amassed 15 points thus far, and they are 7th in the league standings.

A 31st-minute strike from Niklas Suele saw Hoffenheim secure a 1-0 win over Hertha which ensured that the home side remains unbeaten so far in the Bundesliga.
