Marcel Tisserand

Arsenal and Leicester City compete for Ligue 1 defender

Arsenal and Leicester City are involved in the pursuit of Monaco centre-back Marcel Tisserand, according to Daily Mirror.

Mirror claims that both clubs have made enquiries about the versatile DR Congo international who can play as a right-back.

The initial report from the Mirror suggested that the Gunners have made a surprise enquiry for the 23-year-old as they are facing difficulties in signing Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia. It also claimed that Espanyol and Saint-Etienne are also interested in the player.

However, almost 24 hours later, the Mirror published another report claiming that Premier League champions Leicester City have joined Arsenal in the pursuit of the defender.

Tisserand has progressed through the youth ranks of Monaco and has spent last two seasons on loan spells at Lens and Toulouse.

He made 33 league appearances for Toulouse last season. He returned to Monaco in the summer and player full 90 minutes of his side’s 1-0 win over Nantes on Saturday.

As we have earlier reported, the Gunners have recently suffered setbacks in their pursuits of Mustafi and Jonny Evans. They have started exploring alternative targets this week, and Tisserand is one of the many names they seemed to have enquired about in the recent days.
