Serie A Matchday 9 Roundup for Season 16/17

In Serie A matchday 9,Inter Milan’s poor start to the season continued following a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of Atalanta.

The Nerazzurri came into the season with hopes of making it back into the Champions League but judging by their recent form, they certainly have a long way to go.

The recent loss saw De Boer’s side slump to 14th on the table thus sparking a host of hostile reactions from the club’s fans.

Roma picked up a 4-1 win over Palermo to close in on Juventus who still sits atop the Serie A table despite a 1-0 loss away at the San Siro. 18-year-old Locatelli scored the lone goal in the game as Juventus fell to defeat.

Mohamed Salah, Edin Dzeko, Stephan El Shaarawy and Leandro Paredes were on target for Roma as they led the Rome outfit to an emphatic victory in the weekend.

Palermo’s consolation goal came courtesy of a late strike from Robin Quaison. Roma are currently two points adrift of Juventus and could be on course to overtaking the reigning Champions if they maintain their current form.

Manolo Gabbiadini was sent off in Napoli’s game against Crotone - despite the numerical disadvantage, Napoli still managed to sneak a 2-1 win against Serie A’s bottom side with Maksimovic and Ivan Strinic getting on the scoresheet for the Naples outfit.

Fiorentina picked up all three points against Cagliari in an eight-goal thriller. Nikola Kalinic bagged a hat-trick and Federico Bernardeschi grabbed a brace to complete the comeback for the Viola following Cagliari’s opener.

Cagliari managed to put two more goals past Fiorentina but the Florentine side held firm to secure the win.

Elsewhere Torino managed to secure a point against Lazio in 2-2 draw following a last-minute penalty which was converted by Adam Ljajic while Udinese was able to put Pescara to the sword as the Dacia Arena saw Udinese secure a 3-1 victory.

Sassuolo snatched a 1-1 draw at Bologna with Alessandro Marti being on target for the visitors after Simone Verdi opened the scoring.

Empoli was held to another goalless draw by Chievo Verona in what proved to be a drab affair.

Saturday’s early kick-off saw Sampdoria claim their first league win in seven games following a victory over Genoa in the Derby della Lanterna.

Sampdoria’s first goal came in as early as the 12th minute as Luis Muriel scored a close range effort, shortly after Lucas Rigon put the visitors at level terms before an own goal from Genoa’s Armando Izzo put the game to bed.
