Serie A Matchday 20 Round Up: Juventus Succumb to Disappointing Defeat

Fiorentina claimed a surprise 2-1 win over Juventus, thus denting their title hopes with Roma currently gaining on them in the title race.

Nikola Kalinic and Federico Chiesa scored goals in both halves for Fiorentina with Higuain’s strike proving to be a mere consolation goal for the Bianconeri.

Bologna picked up a slender 1-0 win over Crotone courtesy of a goal from Blerim Dzemali. Bologna have a game in hand left to play which would see them climb to 10th place if they manage to pick up the three points.

Inter Milan continued their resurgence as they put in a solid display which saw them grab all three points against Chievo Verona with a 3-1 win.

Mauro Icardi, Ivan Perisic and Eder were all on the scoresheet for Inter with Sergio Pellissier scoring Chievo’s lone goal.

Radija Nainggolan brought Roma one step closer to Juventus as the Belgian midfielder’s 12th-minute strike gave his side a 1-0 win over Udinese. Edin Dzeko missed a penalty which could have potentially made Roma’s win more comfortable.

Napoli were in typical scoring form against Pescara as they secured a 3-1 win over the Serie A’s 20th-placed side. Lorenzo Tonelli opened the scoring with a header, before Hamsik found the net which took him two goals adrift of Maradona’s 115 goals for Napoli.

Dries Mertens scored Napoli’s third, but Caprari mustered up a late consolation goal for Pescara.

Sampdoria played out a goalless draw with Empoli while Lazio grabbed a vital win over Atalanta. Milinkovic-Savic and Ciro Immobile scored a goal each as Lazio won 2-1. Andrea Petagna’s early strike turned out to be Atalanta’s lone goal.

Giovanni Simeone opened the scoring for Genoa as they traveled away to face Cagliari, but soon his goal was rendered void following Marco Borriello’s brace, Joao Galvao’s first-half strike and Diego Farias’ goal in the second 45. The game ended 4-1 for the Cagliari.

A similar result was witnessed at the Stadio Citta del Tricolore as Alessandro Matri scored a brace accompanied by goals from Antonio Ragusa and Matteo Politano which saw Sassuolo put four goals past Palermo.

Palermo could only boast of Robin Quaison’s opener as they were thoroughly outclassed by Sassuolo.

AC Milan were held to a draw by Torino in Monday night’s fixture. Andrea Belotti opened the scoring for Torino before Marco Benassi doubled the lead in the 26th-minute.

Milan pegged two goals back in the second-half courtesy of Andrea Bertolacci and Carlos Bacca.
