Shkodran Mustafi

Defender agrees to join Arsenal

Valencia centre-back Shkodran Mustafi has agreed to join Arsenal, according to Sky Sports.

The report has also mentioned that both clubs are still involved in negotiations over the transfer fee.

Earlier on Thursday, Sky Germany had reported that Mustafi’s move to the North London club is all but done, and the latest report from Sky suggests that German international could be an Arsenal player by the weekend.

Arsenal have been in the transfer market for a centre-back following long-term injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel.

Mertesacker is expected to miss up to five months of action while Gabriel has been ruled out for up to eight weeks.

However, Mustafi’s move will come too late for the season opener against Liverpool, and Arsene Wenger will be forced to play a makeshift defence against the Reds at Emirates Stadium.

The 24-year-old is expected to cost somewhere around £25m-£30m to the Gunners.

Mustafi is a ball-playing defender who will suit perfectly to Arsenal’s style of playing football. He is also familiar with the rigours of Premier League from his time with Everton.

He was also a part of the Germany national team that won 2014 FIFA World Cup and reached semi-finals of this summer’s Euro Cup.
