Chelsea closing on former Real Madrid star, midfielder wants to stay

Chelsea are closing in on a deal for AC Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez, according to reports in Italy.

Italian source Gazzamercato.it claims that the Blues have already reached an agreement with AC Milan over the signing of the 34-year-old.

Spanish keeper Lopez has played for clubs such as Real Madrid, Villarreal and Sevilla in his illustrious career.

However, the deal will only be finalised after Blues’ current number two goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has departed from the club.

Begovic, who joined the Blues from Stoke City last summer, is reportedly looking for an exit from the West London club due to a lack of playing opportunities.

The 29-year-old Bosnian managed to make 17 league appearances for the Blues last season due to an injury to first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Sky Sports claims that midfielder Cesc Fabregas wants to stay at the North London club and fight for his place under manager Antonio Conte.

The 29-year-old was left out of the starting eleven in the 2-1 win over West Ham, and the next day multiple reports linked him with an exit from the club.

However, the report from Sky Sports suggests that the Spain international is not looking for an exit and is ready to prove his worth to Conte.
