Riyad Mahrez

Arsenal not in for Mahrez and face competition from Man City for defensive signing

Arsenal are not interested in signing Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez, according to football website Squawka.

The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move for the Algeria international recently, but the latest report has claimed that they have no intention of signing the player.

Arsene Wenger has publicly stated his desire to sign an attacking player in the transfer market, but Squawka believes that a right-side winger is not his priority at the moment.

Wenger already has a number of options in his squad, such as Aaron Ramsey, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Joel Campbell, who can play on the right side of the front three.

However, the report has linked Ronald Koeman-led Everton with a move for the £40m-rated winger.

The 25-year-old, who won Premier League Player of the Year award last season, has refused to sign a new contract with the Foxes and is said to be considering his future options at the moment.

European giants such as Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been linked with a move for the player.

The Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri recently said about Mahrez’s situation: “I think Mahrez for us is very important as our light. If he goes in another big team, there are so many lights, so many stars, why?

“Stay with us, it’s much better, much better. He’s our champion. If he goes in another team, there are so many champions.”

Mahrez, who signed for the Foxes for almost half-a-million from Le Havre in 2014, scored 17 Premier League goals and provided 11 assists last season

Meanwhile, Arsenal have reportedly joined Manchester City in pursuit of Torino defender Bruno Peres.

Italian publication Tuttosport, via talkSPORT, has claimed that the Gunners have tabled a £15m bid for the Brazilian right-back.

The 26-year-old has attracted interest from a number of clubs following his impressive performances in Serie A.
City manager Pep Guardiola is said to be a fan of the player, while Watford have been tracking him since January.

Peres is known for his pace and dribbling skills and can also play as a winger.
