Campbell joined Sporting Lisbon

Wenger hoping for new arrival and more transfer news

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he hopes to sign Valencia centre-back Shkodran Mustafi in the coming days.

The Gunners have been linked with the German international for quite some time and are believed to have agreed to terms with the player. However, they are still involved in negotiations with the La Liga club over the transfer fee at the moment.

The North London club have lost Gabriel and Per Mertesacker to injuries during the summer and only have one fit senior centre-back in Laurent Koscielny.

The French manager was asked about Mustafi following the goalless draw with Leicester City on Saturday. He told French TV station SFR Sport: “Mustafi? We hope it will be done. He is one of a number of players we are looking at. Negotiations are ongoing.”

The 24-year-old defender is expected to cost in the region of £25m-£30m to the North London club.

Youngster Rob Holding, who arrived at Emirates Stadium from Bolton Wanderers in the summer, has started for the Gunners in their first two league games.

Meanwhile, Arsenal forward Joel Campbell has departed from the club.

The Costa Rica international has joined Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon on a season-long move.

The 24-year-old scored four goals in 30 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners last season.
