The Transfer Series: Players Watford Need To Sign

The highlight of Watford’s season so far is evidently their 3-1 victory over Manchester United in September, but since then they’ve looked a bit shaky but still find themselves just behind the Red Devil at 7th place.

Before the international break, they suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Liverpool, a game in which Klopp’s men put six goals past them, and Watford was only able to score one goal, courtesy of a coolly struck finish from Janmaat.

The loss was disheartening, to say the least, although, it would have indeed given Walter Mazzari an idea of the areas of the team that needs to be strengthened.

But bolstering the squad in January would mean Mazzari signing a proven striker seeing as they’ve been quite unstable in all areas recently.

Ighalo is on a goal drought; Deeney can’t be relied upon to score on a consistent basis, and despite Issac Success’ great performances in recent times, he’s not quite ready to assume the mantle of Watford’s leading man.

Let’s take a look at three players Watford need to sign in January

Daniel Sturridge

Daniel Sturridge

Daniel Sturridge came off the bench against Watford last time out and played exceptionally well. He failed to get on the scoresheet, but he created some great chances during the game and also came close to scoring on a few occasions.

That performance is unlikely to change anything as Klopp won’t be keen on dropping a member of his star attacking trio (Firmino, Mane, and Coutinho), for Sturridge thus the English striker could be on his way out of Anfield in January.

Following Sturridge’s possible availability and Watford’s need for a capable centre-forward, Walter Mazzari could opt so sign him although Liverpool will certainly request a hefty fee for Sturridge.

Three seasons ago, Sturridge was arguably the second best striker in the Premier League, but a series of injuries have seen him fall the pecking order at Liverpool and his lack of playing time could see him make a move away from Anfield in January.

Luciano Narsingh

PSV forward Luciano Narsingh could be available for a transfer in January seeing as he’s nearing the end of his contract with the Eredivisie side.

The PSV winger is technically proficient and boasts of tremendous pace – arguably the right combination of attributes for a Premier League winger.

Narsingh could add a new dynamic to Watford’s attack with the Hornets currently finding goals hard to come by in the League. The Dutchman is a versatile midfielder as he’s capable of playing on either flank – he can also be deployed behind the striker due to his creativity and ability to bring other players into play.

Sadio Berahino

Sadio Berahino’s contract with West Brom runs out in the summer; thus the Baggies may look to offload him in January in a bid to rake in some funds from his sale.

Berahinho has been unsettled at West Brom for quite some time with the Baggies continuously rejecting offers for him. Tottenham attempted to sign him last term, but due to Berahino’s status at the club Spurs’ bid was rejected.

Some clubs are said to be monitoring his current situation with the England international unlikely to put pen-to-paper on a new contract in the summer.

He’s got blistering pace as well as a keen eye for goal; he’ll certainly fit in quite nicely at Watford.
