Serie A Matchday 19 Round Up: Juventus Return With a Bang

The Serie A returned from the winter break in emphatic fashion as Juventus grabbed a 3-0 win over Bologna. Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala were on target for the Bianconerri as the former bagged a brace and the latter scored a well-struck penalty.

Empoli secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Palermo courtesy of Massimo Maccarone’s 78th-minute penalty. Giovanni Martusciello’s side extended the gap between them and the relegation zone as they closed in on 16th-placed Sassuolo.

Sassuolo played out a goalless draw with Torino while Lazio picked up a 1-0 victory over strugglers Crotone thanks to Ciro Immobile’s late strike.

AC Milan had to rely on Carlos Bacca to grab the three points against Cagliari on Sunday. As the game looked poised to end in a draw, Bacca popped up with the winner on the 88th-minute to ensure Milan's continuous involvement in the race for Champions League football.

Napoli was too much for Sampdoria to contain as goals from Manolo Gabbiadini and Lorenzo Tonelli cancelled out Elseid Hysaj’s first-half own goal to give the home side a 2-1 win at the San Paolo.

Armando Izzo’s 36th-minute strike saw Roma grab an important away win at Genoa. The 1-0 win saw the title hopefuls keep pace with Juventus at the top of the table.

Inter Milan grabbed a 2-1 win over Udinese at the Stadio Friuli courtesy of a brace from Ivan Perisic. Jakub Jankto scored the opener for Udinese, but Ivan Persic’s two goals saw Stefano Polli’s side grab the three points.

Chievo Verona and Atalanta produced the weekend’s highest scoring game as Alejandro Daro Gomez bagged a brace for Atalanta which had a significant effect on how the game panned out.

Atalanta secured a 4-1 win with Daro Gomez, Andrea Conti and Remo Freuler all getting on the scoresheet. Chievo’s lone goal came courtesy of Sergio Pellissier’s 62nd-minute strike.
