Serie A Matchday 14 Roundup: Genoa Stuns Juventus

Juventus suffered a shock loss against Genoa on Sunday which most certainly gave Roma hope of actually catching up to Juve in the league standings.

Giovanni Simeone bagged a stellar brace for Genoa with their third goal coming courtesy of an own-goal from Alex Sandro. Miralem Pjanic scored a stunning free-kick as Juventus clawed one back late in the game. The goal, though, proved to be a consolation.

Atalanta picked up a routine 2-0 win over Bologna courtesy of goals from Andrea Masiello and Jasmin Kurtic. The win was Atalanta’s sixth in a row, and they’ll be keen on continuing their impressive performances when they take on Juventus in their next Serie A outing.

Roma secured a 3-2 win against Pescara as Edin Dzeko bagged a brace with both goals being assisted by the scorer of Roma’s third – Perotti.

Lazio currently sits in fourth place in the Serie A standings as the Rome outfit edged a 1-0 win over strugglers Palermo thanks to a goal from Milinkovic-Savic while Sampdoria and Crotone played out a 1-1 draw with Bruno Fernandes and Diego Falcinelli being on target for their respective sides.

Cagliari had Marco Sau to thank as he scored the winner against Udinese at the Stadio Sant’Elia.

Elsewhere, two goals from Gianluca Lapadula helped Madrid to a 4-1win away at Empoli. Lapadula opened the scoring for the Rossoneri, but Empoli scored an equaliser just two minutes later courtesy of Riccardo Saponara.

A magnificent second-half performance saw Suso get his name on the scoresheet before Andrea Costa scored an own goal to take Milan’s tally up to three goals at the Stadio Carlo Castellani before Lapadula’s second of the game saw Milan go 4-1 up.

Iago Falaque bagged a brace as he led Torino to a 2-1 win over Chievo Verona who finished the game a player short. Roberto Inglese clawed one back for Chievo with just five minutes to go, but the scores were 2-1 at Full Time.

Napoli was held to a 1-1 draw by Sassuolo on Monday night in a game the Naples outfit was expected to win. Lorenzo Insigne scored Napoli’s only goal right before half-time.

Sassuolo’s equaliser came in the 82nd minute thanks to Gregoire Daniel who struck home to earn his side a point.

The Giuseppe Meazza played host to a six-goal thriller between Inter Milan and Fiorentina.

Mauro Icardi scored a brace while Antonio Candreva and Marcelo Brozovic were also on target. The Viola’s goals came courtesy of Nikola Kalinic and Josip Illic with both goals coming in the first and second halves.
