Premier League season kicked off with a surprising result

Football is truly back as the new season of Premier League kicked off today.

The first game of the season saw current champions Leicester City take on recently promoted Hull City at KC Stadium.

The Foxes’ title defence got off to a rocky as they lost the opening game of the season 2-1 to the Tigers.

In doing so, Claudio Ranieri’s side became the first club in Premier League history to start their title defence with a loss.The Foxes were outplayed by Tigers, who were the deserved winner on the day.

In another game on the opening day, Burnley lost 1-0 to Swansea City at Turf Moor. Leroy Fer scored the winner for the Swans in the 82nd minute of the game.

West Brom claimed an away win at Crystal Palace thanks to the goal from Samuel Rondon.

Everton, led by Ronald Koeman, held off Tottenham to a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park. Ross Barkley opened the scoring for the Toffees while Erik Lamela equalised for Spurs.

The game between Southampton and Watford also finished 1-1 at St Mary’s Park. Nathan Redmond and Etienne Capoue were scored for the Saints and the Hornets respectively.

New boys Middlesbrough also managed to earn a point from their opening as they drew 1-1 with Stoke City at Riverside. Boro’s summer signing Alvaro Negredo scored the opening goal in the game in the 11th minute. Xherdan Shaqiri equalised for the Potters in the second half.

In the late kickoff, Pep Guardiola got off to a winning start at Manchester City with a 2-1 win against Sunderland at Etihad Stadium.

City left it late against the Black Cats, who were playing their first game under David Moyes. The Citizens made a quick start to the game and were ahead in the fourth minute through Sergio Aguero’s penalty.

Jermaine Defoe equalised for the Black Cats in the 71st minute of the game. However, Paddy McNair scored an 87th-minute own goal to gift all three points City.
