Tactical Analysis of Chelsea vs Arsenal

Premier League Matchday 24 Roundup: Chelsea Extends Gap to Nine Points

Chelsea kicked off the weekend in emphatic fashion as they secured a 3-1 win over fierce rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. The victory saw Chelsea cement their place at the top of the table as they look set to lift the League title at the end of the season.

Marcos Alonso got Chelsea off to a flying start in the 13th-minute, before Eden Hazard scored a sensational solo goal which doubled the lead for the home side.

Cesc Fabregas came on and made an instant impact with a cheeky lob over Cech to take the scores to 3-0. Olivier Giroud managed to score a late consolation goal as the match ended 3-1.

Selhurst Park hosted the most shocking result of the weekend as relegation strugglers, Sunderland picked up a 4-0 win over a seemingly resurgent Crystal Palace side that went into the game off the back of a win.

Lamine Kone, Ibrahim Didier Ndong and Jermain Defoe (2) were all on target for Sunderland as the Black Cats took big strides towards Premier League safety.

The best viewing of the weekend was to be found at Goodison Park as Romelu Lukaku scored four goals to fire Everton to a 6-3 win over Bournemouth. Alongside Lukaku on the scoresheet for Everton was James McCarthy and Ross Barkley.

Joshua King will be proud of his individual performance as he bagged a brace whilst Harry Arter also scored what turned out to be a consolation goal for the Cherries.

Liverpool suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat at the hands of relegation strugglers Hull City. The Tigers seem to be a different side under Marco Silva as they defend with more passion and they launch counter attacks with increased intensity.

Alfred N’Diaye opened the scoring for Hull right on the brink of half-time before Baye Oumar Niasse hit the back of the net on the 84th-minute.

Jose Fonte enjoyed a win over his former side as West Ham secured a 3-1 win over Southampton on Saturday. In-form Andy Carroll was on the scoresheet yet again alongside Pedro Obiang and Mark Noble.

New signing Manolo Gabbiadini was on target for Southampton but his goal didn’t make much of a difference.

Watford built on their win against Arsenal in the previous weekend as they secured a 2-1 victory over Burnley at Vicarage Road. Jeff Hendrick received a red card in the 6th-minute which saw Burnley go ten men down not long after the game kicked-off.

Troy Deeney opened the scoring for Watford before Mbaye Niang sealed the win for the Hornets. Ashley Barnes converted a penalty for Burnley in the 78th-minute.

Tottenham were nearly held to a goalless draw by low-scoring Middlesbrough, but a penalty kick in the second-half from Harry Kane saw Spurs grab a crucial three points with a 1-0 win. Although with Chelsea also bagging a win during the weekend, Pochettino’s side are still nine points behind the league leaders.

James Morrison scored West Brom’s lone goal as they secured a 1-0 win over Mark Hughes’ Stoke City.

Manchester City continued their fine form as they put two goals past Swansea to move up to third on the Premier League table.

The new kid on the block Gabriel Jesus scored both goals as City secured a win, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson was on target for Swansea.

Manchester United remained 6th despite their 3-0 win over a Leicester City side who look set to battle it out alongside five other teams for Premier League safety.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan opened the scoring for Manchester United, before Ibrahimovic scored and took the scores up to 2-0 going into half-time. Mata scored four minutes into the second-half as United look to build momentum for the coming weeks.
