Jose Fonte

Both Manchester clubs close on new signings

Both Manchester clubs have been quite busy in the transfer market this summer, and the latest reports suggest that they are still not done with transfer business.

City are close to signing Barcelona keeper Claudio Bravo, according to Manchester Evening News.

City manager Pep Guardiola doesn’t seem to rate club’s current number one Joe Hart and has been actively looking for a new keeper in the market.

The Citizens have also been linked with Marc-André ter Stegen (Barcelona) and Rui Patricio (Sporting Lisbon), but now it appears that thy will be signing Bravo instead.

The Chilean has a release clause of €42m, but it’s reported that City will be able to get their man at almost half of the price.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have begun talks regarding a move for Southampton centre-back Jose Fonte, according to ESPN.

United, who are reportedly in the market for a centre-back, were also linked with Leonardo Bonucci of Juventus and Raphael Varane of Real Madrid. However, Fonte, who is a compatriot of United manager Jose Mourinho, is valued at around £8m and appears to be a less risky signing for United.

United are expected to submit a formal bid for the 32-year-old Euro Cup winner next week.
