La Liga week 7

La Liga Week 7 Roundup + Highlights

Granada continued their winless run in a home loss against Leganes who currently sits at 11th place on the La Liga standings.

The only goal in the game came through Alexander Szymanowski’s 76-minute effort. Granada failed to pick up their first win of the season having amassed just two points from seven games thus far.

Sevilla welcomed Alaves to the Ramon Sanchez Pizujan in a game which saw the Seville outfit grab a 2-1 win.

Wissam Ben Yedder’s bagged a brace in the 74th and 90th minute respectively whilst Alaves’ only goal came through Victor Laguardia who struck home in the 84th minute in a bid to salvage a draw for his side. But a late strike from Ben Yedder put the three points in the bag for Sevilla.

Osasuna played host to Las Palmas in what proved to be a thrilling 2-2 draw. Roberto Torres converted a spot kick in the 7th minute to put Osasuna in front, Sergio Leon then doubled Osasuna’s lead on the brink of half-time.

The second-half featured goals from the away side as Vincente Gomez and David Garcia netted one apiece to salvage a point for Las Palmas.

Las Palmas is currently 7th on the La Liga standings with a total of 11 points, just four behind league leaders Real Madrid who have amassed 15 points thus far.

Deportivo secured a 2-1 win against Sporting Gijon in what was a seemingly close encounter between two sides that have been on the wane for quite some time.

Atletico Madrid bagged an away victory against Valencia. Goals from Griezmann and Gameiro ensured that the Madrid outfit secured an easy 2-0 win over Valencia.

Atletico were given two penalties which Antoine Griezmann and Gabi failed to convert.

Elsewhere in the Spanish capital, Real Madrid continued their shaky start to the campaign as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Eibar. Eibar’s Fran Rico opened the scoring in the game while Gareth Bale scored the equaliser for Real Madrid.

Madrid is currently second on the League table with a total of 15 points from 7 games.

The only goalless draw in the La Liga this weekend was witnessed in the RCDE Stadium as Espanyol faced Villarreal in what turned out to be a drab affair.

There was a decline in chances during the game with both sides offering few pieces of intriguing play for their fans to enjoy.

Malaga grabbed their second win of the season against in-form Athletic Bilbao. Caution was thrown to the wind as the Referee brandished 13 yellow cards and two red cards.

Aritz Aduriz opened the scoring in the third minute of the tie, but Mikel Balenziga’s 35th-minute red card left Athletic exposed leaving space to be exploited in the basque outfit’s defensive lineup.

Sandro Ramirez scored the equaliser for Malaga in the 82nd minute. Malaga’s second goal came through Duda in the 83rd minute of the game.

The pick of games in the La Liga this weekend is undoubtedly Celta de Vigo’s 4-3 win over Barcelona on Sunday night.

Lago Aspas put in a man of the match display as he assisted one and scored another before Jeremy Mathieu's 33rd-minute own goal. Celta were 3-0 up by the end of the first half.

Barcelona attempted a second-half comeback following two goals from Neymar and Pique in the 58th and 64th minute respectively, but Pablo Hernandez extended Celta’s lead before Gerard Pique scored a constellation goal for Barca.

Elsewhere, Friday night’s fixture saw Real Sociedad secure a win over Real Betis courtesy of a 63-minute Carlos Vela strike.
