La Liga Matchday 14 Roundup: Clasico Result Leaves Madrid on Top

Barcelona and Real Madrid played out a 1-1 stalemate with the away side mustering up the most chances in the game. Neymar assisted the opening goal for Luis Suarez to put Barca in front in the 53rd minute.

Going into the closing stages of the mammoth tie, Sergio Ramos did what he does best – the Spain international salvaged a well-deserved point for Madrid as he nicked a goal in the 90th minute. The result ensured that Madrid would preserve their 6 point lead over arch rivals Barca at the summit of La Liga.

Sevilla suffered a shock defeat to strugglers Granada as goals from Andreas Pereira, and David Lomban saw Granada pick up their first league win of the season. Sevilla’s only goal came in the 90th minute courtesy of a well-struck penalty by Ben Yedder.

Leganes played out a goalless draw with Villarreal which prevented the away side from overtaking Atletico Madrid who was also held to a draw in the weekend by a strong Espanyol backline.

Iago Aspas continued his mercurial form in front of goal as he bagged a brace to help Celta Vigo earn a 3-3 draw at the Estadio Benito Villamarin.

Aspas opened the scoring in the game before Ruben Castro scored a penalty right before half-time. Antonio Sanarabia gave Real Betis the lead with a goal in the 53rd minute, but Aspas’ 62nd-minute strike drew things level.

Pezzella then scored what seemed to be the winner in the 73rd minute, but there was to be another twist to the tale as Facundo Sebastian drew the scores level in the 85th minute.

Goals from Bernat Etxebarria, Inaki Williams and Iker Muniain saw Bilbao secure a 3-1 home win at the San Mames over Eibar, with Sergi Enrich’s 70th-minute strike proving to be the home side’s only consolation.

Elsewhere, Alaves played out a 1-1 draw with Las Palmas with goals from Alexis and Marko Livaja respectively, proving to be the decisive moments of the game.

Sporting Gijon picked up a 3-1 win in a dominant performance over Osasuna. Carlos Carmona scored two goals and Douglas chipped in with one as Gijon garnered all three points at the Estadio El Molinon. Miguel Flano scored a late goal for the away side to put a blemish in the scoreline.

Valencia stayed out of the relegation zone as they held Malaga to a 2-2 draw. Both of Valencia’s goals came in the first-half thanks to strikes from Rodrigo and Alvaro Medran. Pablo Fernals opened the scoring for Malaga before he later scored the equaliser for the away side in the last minute of regular time.

Monday Night’s fixture saw Deportivo La Coruna secure an emphatic 5-1 win over Real Sociedad. Sidnei opened the scoring in the 13th minute before an own goal from Inigo Martinez doubled Deportivo’s lead.

Florin Andone then made it 3-0 in the 42nd minute, but Yuri Berchiche offered Sociedad a lifeline going into the second-half as he clawed one back for the away side.

Ryan Babel missed a penalty, but that didn’t deter him from slotting the ball into the back of the net to make it 4-1. Florin Andone then added his second of the game in the 77th minute to take the scoreline to 5-1.
