La Liga Matchday 8 Roundup

Lionel Messi made an encouraging return from his injury as it took him just three minutes to hit the back of the net when he came on for the Catalan giants. Barcelona secured an emphatic 4-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday – the result took Luis Enrique’s side to third place just two points behind Atleti and Real Madrid.

Atletico Madrid thrashed Granada 7-1 after conceding the first goal in the early stages of the tie. Yannick Carrasco bagged a sublime hat-trick which was certainly the highlight of the game.

Nicolas Gaitan also managed to score his first two goals for Atleti which will serve as a confidence booster as the season progresses.

Real Madrid also won by a significant margin following their 6-1 thumping of Real Betis as they bagged four goals in the first-half. Before the victory against Betis, Los Blancos had drawn four games in a row.

Sevilla also picked up a win against Leganes which came across as a huge relief for Sevilla having not secured an away victory in 17 months.

Las Palmas played out a goalless draw against Espanyol on Friday night which was the home side’s third straight stalemate but arguably the most uneventful of the three.

A five-goal thriller was witnessed at Bilbao’s San Mames ground as the Basque derby took off in a spectacular manner. The Yellow Submarines taught Celta Vigo a lesson they’ll be eager to forget. Villarreal utterly dominated against Celta in a match which ended 5-0. The result came across as a bit of a shocker following Celta’s win against Barcelona last time out.

Monday night’s La Liga fixture saw Osasuna secure a hard-fought 3-2 win against hosts Eibar. Eibar opened the scoring in the first minute through a Gonzalo Escalante strike, but a brace from Sergio Leon threatened to put Osasuna 2-1 up at half-time before Sergi Enrich struck home in the 45th minute.

Roberto Torres completed the scoring for Osasuna in the 58th minute thus earning them the valuable three points.
