Jurgen Klopp Explains sakho

Jurgen Klopp explains Sakho’s exit while the Reds chase talented defender

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has dismissed rumors suggesting that centre-back Mamadou Sakho’s time might be up at the club.

The France international, who was recently acquitted of doping charges, was sent back by Klopp in between of the club’s US tour due to disciplinary issues.

The German manager today explained that he decided to send the 26-year-old back home after he missed a flight, a treatment session and was late for a meal.

However, Klopp intends to resolve the issue once he returns back to Merseyside.

Speaking before the pre-season friendly with Chelsea, Klopp said: "He missed the departure of the plane, he missed a session and then was late for a meal.

"I have to build a group here, I have to start anew, so I thought it maybe made sense that he flew home to Liverpool and after eight days, when we come back, we can talk about it.""

But it's not that serious. It is how I said: we have some rules and we have to respect them. If somebody doesn't respect it, or somebody gives me the feeling he is not respecting it, then I have to react, that's all.

"We had no argument. I spoke. You cannot argue when only one person is speaking, that's all."

Klopp also stated that he won’t be imposing any financial fine on the centre-back.

"I am not interested in the money of the players," Klopp said.

"Not often in my life have I had to fine anybody because I want that we learn together to do the right thing."

"Always it is the same with every group. I don't like fining."

Sakho is currently nursing an Achilles injury, but he was included in the pre-season tour for the team-building exercise.

He is not expected to be available for selection for the Reds’ season opener against Arsenal on August 14.

Meanwhile, Klopp is still looking to make defensive reinforcements to his squad in the transfer window.

The German manager has already completed the signings of Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan this summer, and according to the latest reports, he is now eyeing a move for Lyon teenage defender Jordy Gaspar.

French publication L’Equipe has claimed that the Reds are chasing the talented 19-year-old right-back, who can also play as a left-back.

The report claims that the player is also tempted by the interest of the Merseyside team in his services.

Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen are also said to keeping tabs on the young defender.

Gaspar is yet to make a senior appearance for Lyon but has featured for the first team in the pre-season friendlies.

He is still behind Rafael and Christophe Jallet in the pecking order at his club, and it is expected that Lyon will allow him to leave for the right price.
