Tottenham centre-back Jan Vertonghen

Inter want Vertonghen for Brozovic

Inter Milan have reportedly informed Tottenham that they will have to let go of centre-back Jan Vertonghen if they want to sign Marcelo Brozovic, according to Sky Sport Italia.

The North London have maintained an interest in the Croatian midfielder, who joined Inter from Dinamo Zagreb in January 2015, all throughout the summer.

Now, according to the Sky Italia report, Inter are prepared to let go of the 23-year-old, but they want Vertonghen as part of the cash deal. Spurs would still need to pay some cash in addition to the Belgian as Inter value their player at €25m-€30m.

Inter manager Frank de Boer is familiar with Vertonghen from their time together at Ajax and is said to be a fan of the Belgium international.

The report also mentions that Brozovic wants to join Juventus, but Inter don’t want to enforce their direct Serie A rivals and would prefer to sell the Croatian abroad.

However, it’s very unlikely that Spurs will allow Vertonghen to leave this summer. The Belgian formed an effective centre-back partnership with his compatriot Toby Alderweireld last season. It was mainly due to the Belgian duo that Spurs conceded the least amount of goals in the Premier League last season.

The 29-year-old is under contract at the North London club until the summer of 2018
