Chelsea interested in Ricardo Rodriguez

Chelsea interested in Bundesliga star

Chelsea are contemplating a move for Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez, according to Daily Mirror.

The Swiss international is valued at £22m by his club. He was also strongly linked with Arsenal earlier this summer.

Blues boss Antonio Conte is said to be on a lookout for a new left-back following Baba Rahman’s departure to Schalke. At the moment, Spanish full-back Cesar Azpilicueta is the only senior player in Conte’s squad who can play in the left-back spot.

The West London club were linked with a move for Cologne full-back Jonas Hector, but they seemed to have shifted their focus on Rodriguez after Hector signed a new contract with his club.

Rodriguez’s current contract expires in 2019, but he has already hinted that he wants to leave his club this summer. He signed for Wolfsburg from FC Zurich in 2012, and he has made more than 150 appearances for the Bundesliga side.

Meanwhile, according to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea have failed with a £50 million bid for Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Blues have identified the Senegal international as their primary target this summer, but they haven’t been able to convince the Naples club to sell their player.

The player himself has stated his desire to leave the club this summer.
