Bundesliga Matchday 13 Roundup: Leipzig Retain Top Spot

Bayern kicked off the weekend with a 3-1 win over Mainz which saw them momentarily move up to top spot before Leipzig overtook Ancelotti’s side following their win over Schalke.

A penalty from Timo Werner and a Sead Kolasinac own goal saw Leipzig pick up all three points. Surprisingly, Schalke’s lone goal came through the scorer of Leipzig’s second, Sead Kolasinac.

The win came as a relief for Bayern in the midst of their recent performances – a brace from Robert Lewandowski and a goal from Arjen Robben saw Bayern secure the three points. Mainz’s lone goal came in the 4th minute courtesy of Jhon Cordoba.

Dortmund annihilated Borussia Monchengladbach at the Signal Iduna Park on Saturday. The game ended 4-1 in favour of the home side as goals from Aubameyang (2), Piszczek and Ousmane Dembele saw Thomas Tuchel’s side grab the win.

Dortmund currently sits in 6th place in the Bundesliga standings, one point behind Hoffenheim in 4th.

Leverkusen was held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by Freiburg at the Bay Arena. Janik Haberer opened the scoring for the away side in the first-half, before Hakan Calhanoglu drew things level in the 60th minute.

Hoffenheim continued their impressive form as they secured a 4-0 win over Cologne which saw them continue their unbeaten run. Sandro Wagner bagged a brace while Jeremy Toljan and Mark Uth also got their names on the scoresheet.

Werder Bremen currently sit in 14th place following an emphatic 2-1 win against Ingolstadt. Max Kruse opened the scoring for Bremen before Markus Suttner clawed one back for Ingolstadt.
Bremen’s winner came through Fin Bartel’s strike as he broke the deadlock in a seemingly evenly matched game.

Paul Seguin picked up a red card in a game which saw Hertha Berlin grab a 3-2 away at Wolfsburg. Goals from Borja Mayoral and Paul Seguin put the home side two goals up at half-time with Marvin Plattenhardt giving Hertha a lifeline in the first 45.

The second half saw Alexander Esswein draw things level before Salomon Kalou converted a penalty to earn his side the three points.

Hamburg secured a crucial 2-0 win over fellow strugglers Darmstadt thanks to goals from Micheal Gregoritsch and Matthias Ostrzolek. The win was Hamburg’s first in the Bundesliga this term after 13 games.

Augsburg and Frankfurt played out a 1-1 draw with goals from Branimir Hrgota and Dong-Won Ji cancelling each other out.
