Bundesliga Matchday 11 Roundup: Bayern Drops to Second Place

Cologne came from behind to secure a win 2-1 win over Gladbach thanks to goals from the in-form Anthony Modeste and Risse.

Gladbach opened the scoring in the first-half courtesy of a goal from Lars Stindl, but Anthony Modeste headed home his 12th game of the season in the 59th minute to draw both teams level. Risse then scored a free-kick in the 90th minute to led his side to victory.

Bayern succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Dortmund as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang helped der BVB to the three points at Signal Iduna Park. The loss saw Bayern drop to second place following RB Leipzig’s 3-2 win over Leverkusen.

Leverkusen put up a good display on Friday night at the Bay Arena, but it wasn’t enough to stop Leipzig from extending their unbeaten run. Kevin Kampl opened the scoring for Leverkusen in the 2nd minute, but an own goal from Julian Baumgartlinger drew Leipzig level just two minutes later.

Julian Brandt’s strike just on the brink of Half-time gave Leverkusen the lead going into the second 45. Two second-half goals from Emil Forsberg and Will Orban saw Leipzig pick up the three points away at Leverkusen. The win sees Leipzig assume pole position on the league table following Bayern Munich’s loss against Dortmund.

Darmstadt drew blanks as Ingolstadt secured a hard-fought away win thanks to a stunning half-volley from Moritz Hartmann.

Elsewhere, Mainz secured an emphatic 4-2 win over Freiburg in a six-goal thriller. Goals from Niko Bungert and Yunus Malli gave Main a two-goal lead at half-time. Freiburg pulled one back in the second-half after Vincenzo Grifo’s cool finish before Stefan Bell extended Mainz’s lead in the 82nd minute.

Nils Petersen got Freiburg back in the tie, but a goal in the late stages from Karim Osinowo put the game beyond doubt for Mainz.

Wolfsburg’s poor start to the season continued as Schalke earned a hard-fought win at the Volkswagen Arena. Goretzka scored for Schalke in the 82nd minute to seal the three points for the Ruhr side.

Augsburg and Hertha played out a goalless draw both sides lacked cutting-edge finishing.

Hoffenheim was held to a 2-2 draw by rock-bottom Hamburg. Filip Kostic and Nicolai Muller scored two goals for Hamburg to remain in the game while Hoffenheim’s goals came via Sandro Wagner and Steven Zuber.

Werder Bremen lost at home to Frankfurt as Alexander Meier, and Aymen Barkok struck home for the away side. Bremen’s only goal came courtesy of Florian Grillitsch.
